The unprecedented rains in Kerala have seen the state suffering the worst floods in a century. Nearly 200 people have lost their lives and lakhs of residents have been displaced. While Bollywood stars have been urging people to do their bit by contributing to the relief fund, Hrithik Roshan has gone a step ahead.
Says a source, “When Hrithik got to know about the disaster, he quietly sent across a few people from his team to get an understanding of all the help the victims and the state required. Though he was shooting for the last schedule of his film Super 30 in Mumbai, he kept in touch with them over the phone to take updates and act accordingly. He will continue to do so till the state recuperates.
”Hrithik, who is known to be a perfectionist, goes the extra mile to see that he accomplishes what he sets out to do. This explains his attention to detail in providing assistance to the flood-affected people. Besides sending his team to help, he also wrote a cheque of an undisclosed amount for the relief and rehabilitation of God’s own country.Hrithik, who has over 24 million followers on social media, persuaded his fans to make their contribution towards the state. He tweeted, “The situation in Kerala is critical. Help is required. Please let’s come forward and do whatever we can. Our friends in Kerala need us right now. I have contributed a sum and I request you all to do whatever you can. God bless #KerelaFloodRelief (sic).”
MEANWHILE...
Akshay Kumar, who always rises to the occasion whenever there is a national calamity, has contributed to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. His wife and author Twinkle Khanna tweeted, “We have done our bit and I would urge all of you to open your hearts and help the people of Kerala as much as possible.” When Chennai had faced floods in 2015, Akshay had contributed a sum of Rs 1 crore to help the rain-ravaged people. Others who have contributed to the Kerala relief fund are Shah Rukh Khan, Sonam K Ahuja and Vidya Balan.
