DHOOM 2 is the fastest money spinner in the Overseas territory as well. In U.S.A., the film has crossed $ 2 million in 11 days; in U.K., it's nearing £ 1 million mark; in Australia, it's speeding towards Aus. $ half-a-million mark. Converted into Indian Rupees, DHOOM 2 has touched Rs. 18.3 crores in 10 days from these three markets alone. And if you add New Zealand as well as Netherlands [opened this week], the film has crossed [gross] Rs. 18.75 crores.[/b] If you compare the 10-day totals of 2006 biggies in the three major markets, DHOOM 2 is No. 3 in U.K. [after KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and DON], No. 2 in U.S.A. [after KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA] and No. 2 in Australia [after KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA]. Another noteworthy aspect is that the 10-day totals of DHOOM 2 are bigger than the 10-day totals of Yash Raj's multi-starrer VEER-ZAARA in U.S.A. and Australia. In fact, V-Z is leading only in U.K.

‘DHOOM’ BOOM

The cynics predicted Doomsday for DHOOM 2. Let me quote the pessimists: “DHOOM 2 would crash and collapse on Day 2 [Saturday].” They changed their tune and said Day 4 [Monday] would spell trouble at the ticket window. It changed to Day 6 [Wednesday] gradually. Then Day 8 [Friday] subsequently. But DHOOM 2 continues to take rapid strides and has galloped its way to success.

The second weekend -- on the same number of prints and the same number of shows -- was extremely heartening [70%-80%-90%]. The pessimists? They’re now singing a different tune, praising the business to the skies. If you can’t beat them, join them! 2006 has been a great year for Yash Raj. First FANAA hit the bull’s eye. Weeks later, the two distribution acquisitions, KRRISH and KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA, proved major successes. And now DHOOM 2. Will 2006 end on an equally prosperous note with KABUL EXPRESS?

Tidbits on D:2 Box Office

The definition of a bumper week would have to change from hereon as 'Dhoom 2' has written history all over! If the collections of Week 1 are anything to go by, this Sanjay Gadhvi film is easily en route to turn out to be the biggest money-spinner ever. It may not enjoy a 5 year run of a 'Sholay' or a tremendous stay at the BO like 'Gadar-Ek Prem Katha' or a 11-years-and-still-running film like 'DDLJ' but it is certainly destined to get to the top when it comes to the final numbers i.e. overall box office moolah! What else does one expect from a film that takes a 35 crore opening and still continues to do tremendously well at theatres across country in the second weekend?

KANK record of 28 crore was beaten with as much as a 25% increment which is a feat that promises to remain intact for number of weeks to come. Whether it was a A, B or a C center, the film has created records all over with Mumbai topping with a tremendous 6.5 crores, Pune sitting pretty at 1.5 crore and Ahmedabad boasting of 1 crore. Now let's talk about Delhi. Its total may look excellent at 2.3 crore but it could easily have been in the up of at least 1 crore if the film would have got a multiplex release there. Ditto for Delhi NCR where the film released only on single screens which means that in the end, the film lost out on at least a couple of crores overall!

Hrithik now emerges as a strong contender for numero uno position this year with two back to back successes though Aamir Khan is his closest challenger with both 'Rang De Basanti and 'Fanaa' being critically as well as commercially successful.
