Suneet Verma is excited about styling Hrithik Roshan in Anurag Basu’s Kites

Often described as a Greek God, Hrithik Roshan is without a doubt a ‘dream body’ to bag. The big challenge, however, is how to make this well-known clotheshorse look even more gorgeous than he already does! But with 21 solid years in the fashion industry, confidence isn’t something Suneet Verma lacks. Interestingly, the Delhi-based designer has been roped in for Anurag Basu’s Kites (being produced by Rakesh Roshan) and will be styling the look for both Hrithik as well his foreign co-star Barbara Mori. Incidentally, this is the first time Suneet will be dressing up Roshan Jr. “His is no doubt the best body to dress up. He is extremely intelligent and thinks about his character,” says an excited Suneet. He adds, “Looking good is one thing, but looking great in a character is altogether different. His look needs thought and specific styling.”

However, Suneet says the bigger challenge of the film is its unique storyline—a thriller that’s also a love story. “As such, the clothes and styling have to be young, convincing, and functional and allow for a lot of movement. As both lead characters are based abroad, they have to fit in and yet, look fantastic,” he says, revealing that narrow silhouettes, solid colours and cool accessories will dominate the styling. In an attempt to be different, many designers have failed to impress audiences with over-the-top or bizarre styling. Ask him if he ever fears falling into this trap and he says, “Cinema today is an intelligent biz and needs to be convincing for the audience. Anurag, the director, has a keen eye and I am excited to work with him.”

Later this year, the designer starts work on a Hollywood movie. He has also been working on several big projects, including a show with Swarovski called Runway Rocks scheduled to take place in Mumbai on April 23. Ask him what keeps him motivated to achieve more than he already has and he says, “Every morning when I wake up, I feel excited to get to work…such is the high of fashion!”
