Bollywood’s abuzz with anticipation following Agneepath’s promos being aired on television. They predict that the film will be able to break all records when it comes to box office collections in 2012. Produced by filmmaker Karan Johar, it is said to be a tribute by Karan to the classic that was made by his late father, Yash. The film with actor Hrithik Roshan as its hero and actor Sanjay Dutt as his arch villain, releases in January early next year, but has already been named as the ‘most awaited film in the next quarter’ by trade experts. “Undoubtedly, Agneepath is the most awaited film of 2012. The most important factor for this hype is that this film is coming from the same house that made the earlier classic. So, naturally the audience is expecting another classic in it. Moreover, there’s no doubt that Karan has one of the best sensibilities in Bollywood. When he is making a tribute to one of the classics made by his father, one can only expect that it would be a masterpiece too,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The USP of the film, according to film trade expert Komal Nahta, will be the chemistry between Hrithik and Sanjay. “People are eager to see Hrithik and Sanjay in action. It is also one of the factors contributing to the film being one of the most waited one as both are known to be very powerful actors. They’ll be able to do justice to the immensely powerful script that one expects from a film like this,” says Komal. Other trade analysts and distributors also agree and are hoping for a record opening following the kind response the promos have generated in the market. “The film has a tremendous buzz in the market, which is why we are all pinning our hopes on the film. When we (in the trade circles) meet and discuss about films that will fetch a good profit for us next year, Agneepath is the film that tops our list. The inputs that we have received about the film are tremendous to say the least,” says a distributor. Karan says that he’s aware of the expectations from his production in the market. “People have very high expectations from the film. I too am very optimistic about the film because the final cut has really turned out to be the way I expected it to be. I just hope that the audience enjoys seeing the film as much as we enjoyed making it,” said Karan.
