It's only been a week since the teaser of the Agneepath remake was released and producer Karan Johar is already on cloud nine. Reason: the promo received over 6,50,000 hits on YouTube within 48 hours, and the number was close to 10 lakh at the time of going to press. On the occasion, the filmmaker promises to bring out a longer and more detailed trailer of his action drama around Diwali. “I'm always hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. We had shown the teaser to a cross-section before releasing it. The reactions made us somewhat confident that it would arouse initial interest. Fortunately it did,“ beams Karan, adding that the idea behind bringing out the first promo, five months before the film's release, was to highlight the fact that there is nothing in common between this film and the original, except the names of the protagonist and antagonist -Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Kancha Cheena. “Mukul Anand's and Karan Malhotra's worlds are diagonally different. Karan has worked hard to make Agneepath a completely different film and it's evident in the promos.“
Karan also points out that Agneepath (1990) with Amitabh Bachchan was the last time his production house, Dharma Productions, churned out an action movie. “It's such a coincidence. But I'm glad the first promo has been well received. The second promo will be out around Diwali, because that's another festive occasion when we'll get eyeballs because people have the time to watch movies and TV. I can promise the promo will be much longer than the first one, with more dialogue, action and drama, giving the audience a better feel of each character and a hint of the story,“ he assures. When asked if the original Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Kancha Cheena (played by Danny Denzongpa) have seen the promos yet, Karan says, “I don't know if they have because they haven't told me anything yet. But Amit uncle (Amitabh Bachchan) and Danny are family friends. I'm sure they'll wish us well.“
