Stars drove down in hordes to Karjat to attend the inauguration of Nitin Desai Studios. Big B presided as chief guest While assisting Oliver Stone during the making of Alexander (2004) National Award winning art director Nitin Desai pledged to set up a lavish, state-of-the-art studio. Recently, when he settled for a lavish celebration with Amitabh Bachchan attending, he said, "I just wanted to prove him (Stone) wrong as he felt that we lack infrastructure."

The extravagant affair had filmmakers and actors including Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Ketan Mehta, Deepti Naval, Nikhil Advani, Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor and Madhur Bhandarkar at the event. Amitabh Bachchan was entrusted with the responsibility of doing the traditional aarti in the hallowed portals of the temple. Talking about his association with the art director, he says, "Nitin had shown me the model of this studio, which is probably better equipped than any Hollywood studio. I had never thought that he would be able to construct it."

However, future daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai preferred to recollect her college days as an architecture student. Talking about the studio, she said, "The miniature model of the studio excited me. This time around when I shot in the studios (for Jodha Akbar) I was completely taken aback." As for fellow colleague Hrithik Roshan the studio will serve as a second home. "The thought of commuting every day was killing. But now that I have been shooting here for more than a month, I am thinking of getting my family here. It is a home away from home," he says.

As for comic elements, Amitabh Bachchan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra indulged in an impromptu push-me game when it came to resting on a throne built for the chief guest. As for future plans, Desai intends to house the Seven Wonders of the World, including a black Taj Mahal, in the studios. Mira Nair will film a major portion of her forthcoming film Shantaram in the studio.
