High as Kites

Film stars and manners don’t really go together. At least not in India for sure. But Amitabh Bachchan has always been one of the few exceptions. He has a way of being polite even when he is curt. But Hrithik Roshan took me by surprise the other day. As he greeted my friend and his wife, he did not ignore me standing right next to them, as is the standard procedure among stars when they see someone they do not know.

Even if it is a lady, they will look through her. They will never acknowledge you out of sheer attitude if they do not know you. The same evening as I met Hrithik, I met another brash Khan who just came and rudely hijacked the person I was talking to. Only in India dearies, only here. Anywhere else in the world they will always smile at you if they happen to be talking to someone with you. But this is true about most people here in high society too. They can be brash and rude to strangers. Thank God, I know most of them. Well, it says a lot about Hrithik’s confidence. Now I know what Kangana Ranaut means when she says her co-star from Kites is a perfect gentleman.
