Excerpts from the interview
Q: How was it working with Hrithik Roshan in Kites?
Suneet: It was amazing. I directed the costumes for Hrithik, Kangana, Barbara Mori and Nick, an Indian-Australian actor, for Kites. Hrithik is an incredible clothes horse and Kangana is a quiet person but is actually a volcano underneath! She reminds me of Madhu Sapre, they share the same awkwardness and also the same perfect sense of style. Some people just know better from within, and I believe that it’s something that can’t be acquired. That’s why every fashion week, we all wait for that one talent that has that certain oomphy X factor.
Coming back to Hrithik, I styled Suzanne and him for Hello! magazine and what a shoot! He’s a very jeans and tee guy and in the beginning of Kites all he told me is that he likes things fitting a certain way, not to the body, but in a certain way. ‘Rest, I know nothing Suneet!’ he said! For the shoot he got ready in 10 minutes flat, all bronzed and beautiful and you feel it is almost impossible to look so good! Working with him is an incredible experience and I learnt a lot.
He is a perfectionist and so am I, so it was like two positives coming together! Suzanne is also lovely, she is exuberant and has a sense of inner calm. They’re so in love... at a table for six at dinner you can actually see everybody gazing at Suzanne, including Hrithik!
