Kaho Na Pyar Hai’, which proved to be the biggest blockbuster of the year and gave the Hindi cinema its new screen idol in Hrithik Roshan, swept the honours at the Third Sansui Film Awards presented here today. Kaho Naa Pyar Hai also won 11 other awards including best film and best direction.
In a glittering ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, “Mohabbatein” directed by Aditya Chopra received as many as five awards. Thespian Rajesh Khanna and Helen received the lifetime achievement awards. Amitabh Bachchan the original choice for the lifetime achievement award had refused to accept it. The awards event proved that both jury and viewers were unanimous that Rakesh Roshan’s film, to launch his son, was a sure winner since it received seven viewers and four jury awards. Hrithik bagged the Best Debut award.
