Bling it on, boys! That will literally be the mantra tonight as Bollywood heavyweights like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgan, Zayed Khan and Karan Johar among others will walk the ramp for a special men’s jewellery line created by Farah Khan in conjunction with Mahesh Notandass.
“It’s a tribute to the gods of cinema and is inspired by their diverse personalities,” says Farah, adding that she was truly touched by the goodwill of her friends for sporting her line. “Filmstars today are the ones who set the fads — they’re the trendsetters. Plus, they have the confidence to carry it off.”
Offset by clothes designed by Anna Singh, the Celestial Collection will feature three lines: Safari, Corporate and Maharaja, that will include cuff links, pendants, bracelets, rings and kurta buttons all set in 18K gold with diamonds in leather or enamel. “My inspiration has been Indian culture though nowadays yes, you do see a lot of hip-hop artistes sporting jewellery,” admits Farah, whose husband DJ Aqeel will also be walking the ramp. “And while the line is bold and dramatic, it’s great to see that today’s man is more in touch with himself and willing to experiment.”
But is male jewellery here to stay or is it simply a ‘flash’ in the pan? “It’s definitely here to stay! It’s just that till now, nobody has really offered men such a range,” feels Mahesh Notandass. “This is a young, trendy collection and we haven’t used too many bright colours. So that makes it not feminine at all,” he asserts.
