Bollywood & pop performances, star appearances, Alanis acoustic: the 2nd IMMIES was a another spine-chilling dhinchak awards ceremony.
"I want to thank my left leg, my right leg, my right hand, my left hand," said the delicious Hrithik Roshan when he received the Best Peformance in Film (Male) award for his rubbery moves in "Main Aisa Kyon Hoon". It was a night of star studded performances and celebrity winners. The mosh pit could hardly contain themselves when Zayed Khan performed a medley of songs originally performed by this years' Best Performance nominees SRK, Salman, Hrithik, Sanjay and Abhishek. Blame us then for the strained vocal chords, coz Aitraaz star Priyanka Chopra also sizzled as did Fardeen Khan in his spooky "Bhoot Hoon Main" grand finale. In keeping with the horror theme, the IMMIES was set to look like a bhoot bangla, replete with a 7 ft tall Frankenstein and Noorie, Vikram and Vaital who served as award presenters.
The night saw local indi-pop biggies rub shoulders with gobally based bands of Indian origins. It's just the kind of thing tha MTV prides itself on. Appropriately the show kicked off with an energetic performance by Canadian based Josh and apna own Prince of bhangra Sukhbir. Also taking on the stage that night were Pakistani smash hit bands Fuzon and Strings.
Last year's IMMIES saw Irish band Westlife perform and this year the display of international talent included "Colour Blind" star Darius and multi-Grammy winning Alanis Morissette (looking gorgeous in short hair and black dress) who received the greatest applause when she performed acoustic versions of her hits "Ironic" and "Thank You".
Our hosts - the dead serious Cyrus Broacha (he loved the mosh pit and they loved him back) and the drop dead gorgeous Mandira Bedi were only too ecstatic to bring on stage as presenters the best of Indian celebrities. There was Shilpa Shetty with hottie Jay Sean who did an impromptu drum beat thingy using just his mouth and then there was cricketer Yuvraj Singh who by the raised decibel levels in the crowd is as much a hit off the field as he is on it.
The jury award for Internatioanl acts went to the very popular Black Eyed Peas (Best International Debut Pop), Latino heart throb Enrique Iglesias (Best International Pop Male) and sexy, naughty Tata Young (Best International Pop Female). On the swades front, Sonu Nigam emerged as Best Singer Male (Film), making this his 2nd IMMIE in a row, while Sunidhi Chauhan picked up the coveted Best Singer Female (Film). In indi-pop, "Bheegey Honth" won new comer Kunal Gangawala his first ever IMMIE with an award for Best New Film Music Talent, while Canadian duo Josh walked away with Best New Non Film Talent for their debut album Kabhi.
