Rob Cohen, the director of The Fast and the Furious, has gone behind the camera to direct a new commercial featuring top Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan. Filmed in Dubai, the Mountain Dew commercial shows Roshan racing in a desert car rally, a premise which would seem to be in Cohen's wheelhouse as a action specialist. In the spot, Roshan drives his car directly into a sandstorm to win the race. The commercial's Hindi tag line, Naam Bante Hain Risk Se, roughly translates as taking risks is the only way to make a name for yourself.
Cohen visited Mumbai and met with Roshan and his family last summer, sparking rumors that the Hollywood director and the Bollywood star were planning to work on a feature. A behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the commercial shoot is available online.
Roshan's earlier Hollywood connection happened with his 2010 Hindi film Kites (directed by Anurag Basu), which was also released with a specially re-edited English dubbed version for the international market. Kites: The Remix was edited and produced by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour).
Roshan was last seen in Fox Star Studios' action caper Bang Bang!, a Bollywood reworking of the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight and Day. He is currently filming historical epic Mohenjo Daro, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, co-produced by Walt Disney India.
