The Bollywood glitterati came out to play in Durban this weekend, and life will never be the same again for thousands of local fans still starstruck by the experience.
Thousands descended on Absa Stadium on Saturday night to see 10 Bollywood superstars on stage together for the first time in the Now Or Never concert co-produced by Videovision's Anant Singh and Bollywood's Amitabh Bachchan.
The humid Durban weather did little to dampen the spirit of their large fan base.
Superstars Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Sushmita Sen, Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty treated fans to a concert filled with the latest Bollywood hits.
As artist after artist strutted their stuff on an intimidating stage - one of the largest in South Africa - the Durban audience was transfixed. The only complaint was that stars like Roshan and Khan were given too little time in the limelight.
Khan, who seemed to be the favourite, toyed with the audience as they screamed for more.
Perhaps the best performance for the night was by Mukherjee, who performed with the Bollywood flavour that has so endeared her to the South African audience.
The four-hour show ran to more than six hours - with no complaints from the audience.
In the end it was left to the doyen of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, to thrill the audience with his poetry and musical performance.
The night before the concert, the adoration was visible on the faces of fans as the sequin and sari set filed into the dining hall of the International Convention Centre for the Now Or Never banquet.
Not even the price of R2 500 a plate was going to deter them from their mission - to be seated under the same roof, mix and, if lucky, be photographed with some of the best-known film idols in the business.
They jostled for a closer glimpse, some reached out to touch their screen heroes and others just swooned in disbelief at the sight of their idols in real life. The list of special guests invited by hosts Videovision and SugarMill Casino was also impressive and included Deputy President Jacob Zuma, cabinet ministers Aziz and Essop Pahad
and sociologist Fatima Meer.
