Actor Hrithik Roshan says bits of his own self are part of every role he plays on screen, but while working on "Bang Bang", he discovered a complete similarity between his real and reel self.
"'Bang Bang' is the first film in which instead of getting into the character, I discovered that I was the character. It was self-discovery," Hrithik said here during an event Friday.
He believes that "it's a very fortunate moment for an actor" when his characters "become a platform to vent or channelise a similar emotion that you are going through in real life". I have had such experiences while doing 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hain', 'Koi Mil Gaya, 'Lakshya' and 'Guzaarish' and of course, 'Bang Bang'," he said, and added that "all of them are bits of pieces of me".
Hrithik started his film career 14 years back with "Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai". Over the years, he has established himself among Bollywood's top rung performers. A dancer par excellence, his forthcoming release "Bang Bang", an official remake of Hollywood's Tom Cruise-starrer "Knight And Day", will see him grooving a la Michael Jackson. How did he learn to dance so well?
"I'm still trying to understand how? But, we're all born with certain gifts. Maybe I just look good when I dance but that's not good enough. Understanding your gifts and strengths is just not enough in life. You need to recognise them and then need to build a skill around them.
"So I have given hours and hours to master the things that I think are my fortes and strengths, instead of thinking of what's not good about. I focus on what's good about me," said the actor, who overcame stammering to become the star he is today.
"Bang Bang", also starring Katrina Kaif, will release Oct 2.

Hrithik Roshan will be seen in an action hero avatar in his upcoming film Bang Bang and the Bollywood star says while working on the project he realised for the first time that he didn't have to toil hard to get into the skin of the character as he could relate to it.
The action thriller has been directed by Siddharth Anand and is the official remake of Hollywood film "Knight and Day", which starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Bang Bang is the first film in which instead of getting into the character I discovered that I was the character. It was a self-discovery for me," Hrithik said.
Bang Bang also stars Katrina Kaif and will hit theatres on October 2. The 40-year-old actor said all the characters he has played till now have had a part of him and he has vent his real-life emotions through them.
"All of them are bits of pieces of me. But there are some roles that come our way and at a time when it becomes a platform to vent or channelise a similar emotion that you are going through in real life. I have had such experiences while doing Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hain, Koi Mil Gaya, Lakshya and Guzaarish," he added.
The actor was in the capital to attend the CII Big Picture Summit where he along with his filmmaker father Rakesh Roshan and music director uncle, Rajesh Roshan were felicitated for their contribution to Indian cinema.
When asked why he decided to become an actor, Hrithik, who made his Bollywood debut in 2000 with "Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hain" directed by his father, said it was his stuttering problem and fear of facing the camera that made him choose acting as a career.
"I think I wanted to do it as I knew that if I did not do this it will be unfair. This was one thing I feared most as I had the stuttering problem and if I tried to say a dialogue I could not. I had no choice... I had to fight that demon in my head that said that it was not possible and I could not do it," he said.
"I had a father who was successful. I could have had a comfortable life, easier life but it would have been a very sad life," said the actor, who has won several awards in his 14-year-long career.
