Father and son duo, Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan are understandably excited about their upcoming release, Kaabil, directed by Sanjay Gupta. Rakesh, who is producing the film, is undeterred about Kaabil clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, even as both movies are set to release on the same day in January next year.

With the clash of two big films at the box office, it remains to be seen which of them will be lapped up by the audience.

Unfazed by SRK’s marketing skills, Rakesh says, “Earlier too there would be multiple releases. During our days, if one film was houseful, the crowd would rush to another theatre, where tickets were available.”

Elaborating on their promotional tactics, he says, “We will continue with whatever we have been doing earlier. Hum na zyada promotions karne waale hain, na kam (We won’t promote too much or too little).

Promotional activities alone don’t make much of a difference.” Rakesh confidently adds, “We had already decided and arranged everything in accordance with our release. We have enough theatres to exhibit our movie. We only need to work sincerely and in a justified manner.”

Citing the example of Aamir Khan’s upcoming Dangal, the senior Roshan says, “After watching the trailer, the storyline needs to unfold, so that audiences come in with their minds prepared. Look at Dangal’s trailer, it clearly states what the content is and what the storyline wants to reveal. Audiences should know everything from the trailer itself.”

Taking a trip down nostalgia lane, Rakesh also recalled his association with actress Amisha Patel, “I met Amisha at a wedding ceremony and asked her if she would like to audition for my film. She was keen and auditioned the very next day for Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, which was Hrithik’s debut film as well.”

On picking Yami Gautam for Kaabil, he says, “I had seen Yami’s performance in Vicky Donor and found her very innocent looking. Also, her performance was exuberant. I called her to audition for Kaabil, and here she is. Yami has done a wonderful job, playing the role of a visually impaired person.” He does admit that Hrithik had not seen any of Yami’s films.

“Hrithik had not watched any of her films, so after casting her, I told him to at least watch Vicky Donor.”
