Producer Karan Johar has signed Hrithik Roshan again after Agneepath. Director Karan Malhotra will direct his Agneepath hero once again in a film titled Shuddhi. Writer-director Karan has still not decided on the leading lady. He says, “Hrithik is in, that’s for sure. There are two other characters — one of heroine and other of villain — which need to be finalised.” However, people in the know say that Deepika Padukone may be approached for the lead role. Karan adds, “I have a big wishlist. And though I want one particular actress to do the film, it would be too early to talk about it. I am too superstitious when it comes to things like these.”

According to the director, Shuddhi will be a dramatic-romantic movie. “It is my kind of film. An epic romance. Agneepath was an adaptation but this one is written by me and my wife Ekta,” Karan says. The original Agneepath, though has a cult following among its fans, bombed at the box-office. The remake, on the other hand, not only won accolades but also entered the Rs100-crore club.

After the super success of Dharma Productions' 'Agneepath' last year, producer Karan Johar, director Karan Malhotra and Hrithik Roshan are teaming up again. Unlike their first collaboration, a remake of the 1991 movie produced by Yash Johar (Karan's late father), the next venture is based on an original story. Titled 'Shuddhi', the film starts end-2013 and will release in Diwali 2014.

About the film, KJo says, "It's a large-scale love story, a genre I love." Recalling the making of Agneepath, he says, "I had a wonderful experience. Karan (Malhotra) has a fantastic vision, a combination of aesthetic and commercial sense. Hrithik is a close friend and an outstanding actor. So, it's great that the three of us are teaming up again."

Hrithik says, "I'm really excited to work with the two Karans again. Agneepath is an extremely special film for me and I can't wait to recreate a new world again."

Incidentally, this will be KJo's second Diwali outing since his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Hoping that the festival will be as lucky for Shuddhi as it was for KKHH, he says, "Diwali is also synonymous with films that entertain the entire family. Shuddhi is a love story that gives you everything that you look for in a festive release. I hope that we live up to the expectations that Agneepath has generated."

KJo says, "Karan has been preparing for this film for over a year. I've never seen a director work a year in advance on pre-production."

There has been a lot of speculation over Hrithik Roshan’s next - Kabir Khan’s yet-to-be- titled film or Shekhar Kapur’s Paani or Karan Malhotra’s next. It’s official now: Karan Malhotra has won the race. The film will be titled Shuddhi (which means purification). Hrithik signed the film on Sunday. To be produced by Karan Johar, Shuddhi will have three main characters. The heroine and the villain are yet to be decided. Malhotra’s previous film, the remake of Agneepath, also starred Hrithik.

A source close to Karan said: “Karan and Hrithk had a long meeting last week. Hrithik went through the script at length and then signed on the dotted line. Contrary to rumours, the film is not based on Amish Tripathi’s novel The Immortals Of Meluha.” When contacted, Malhotra told Mirror: “Yes, my next film, Shuddhi, will star Hrithik. It’s a very complex role. Apart from the hero, the film has a strong villainous character.” Malhotra will put the film on floors in November this year. “We will be shooting most portions in Mumbai and Uttarakhand. We are aiming for a Diwali 2014 release,” he added.

Hrithikrules Note: Hrithik has NOT denied doing Paani, an official confirmation from YRF and Shekhar Kapur is awaited.
