Returning to the city once again, after her brief visit last weekend with Akshay Kumar for the premiere screening of Action Replayy, was Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, this time with Bollywood’s resident heartthrob, Hrithik Roshan in tow. The duo breezed into town on Wednesday afternoon to promote their latest feature, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, which depicts the life of a skilled former magician as he comes to terms with his sudden handicap.

But while the drama, laced with attractive elements of romance, has managed to garner its fair share of interest, the fate of such an intense script at the box office, especially during the festive season where the trend favours light-hearted fare, remains to be seen. The optimistic stars, however, were not to be deterred. Said Roshan, “Guzaarish is a celebration of life and it was the paraplegics that I interacted with in preparation of the role that taught me to smile through the worst and see the positive in everything. We’re sure that the audience will pick up on that. It’s a very inspiring watch.”

Seated by his side, Roshan’s co-star could not help but agree, adding, “I was very excited about this movie right from the start. And irrespective of when it releases, it’s a good movie that people should watch. I’d said yes to Sanjay even before he narrated the script to me because after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas he wanted to portray me in a different light in his next.” The actress plays the nurse and caregiver to Roshan’s Ethan Mascarenas in the film, a woman who has stood by his side for 14 years and shares a tacit love with his character. “I knew this would be a new creative experience for me. Honestly, this is a story that needs to be told. It’s a strong film and people will like it.”
