Asian Guild

The winning streak for Koi Mil Gaya continued in Britain as Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta bagged the best actor and actress award at the annual Asian Guild Awards ceremony here on Saturday. The Roshan family struck a hat-trick as the Bollywood stars father, Rakesh Roshan, received the best director and best film awards and his grandfather, veteran filmmaker J. Om Prakash, received a lifetime achievement award. "It is very rare when I am made to feel like such a winner and honoured along with my father and grandfather in our favourite city in the world. The Asian Guild Award proves the equation between hardwork and happiness and it doesn’t get any happier than this," Hrithik Roshan said amid cheers from a crowd that included NRI parliamentarians like Lord Swraj Paul and Lord Navnit Dholakia and tycoons like Lakshmi Mittal and G.P. Hinduja. year award, and Dr Rabinder Singh QC, Britain’s first Sikh deputy high court judge, received a special Guild award.

The Asian Guild, a charitable organisation, was set up four years ago to honour Asians for achievements in different fields. Dr Kamlesh Bahl, a former member of the Law Society who is fighting a racial discrimination case against Britain’s premier legal institution, was honoured with the woman of the year award, and Dr Rabinder Singh QC, Britain’s first Sikh deputy high court judge, received a special Guild award. The guild’s objective is to make funds available to the high achievers to further their research and development in their respective fields. Sponsorships for undergraduates and post-graduates to study at leading UK universities are also planned, Suresh Joshi said. An auction of designer Ritu Beri’s creations helped raise funds for these sponsorships.
