As one of Bollywood's respected filmmakers, Rakesh Roshan turns 64 today, he speaks to Dailybhaskar.com about Krrish 3, family, work and a lot more.

When questioned about the team work of brother Rajesh Roshan, son Hrithik and himself, he says, "Hrithik is just as stubbornly ambitious as he's polite. He is a go-getter and a polished actor now. He is the only actor, according to me, who is articulate and has improvised with each film he has done. In his personal life too, Hrithik knows how to prioritize. He has learnt the art of striking a balance between work and family. He is patient and quite calm unlike my daughter Sunaina who is my biggest critic and is quite dominating.” Talking about family, Rakesh gets nostalgic and reveals how his wife has been an ultimate support through thick and thin. He goes down the memory lanes and sheds some light on his struggling period.

"Hrithik has inherited the never-give-up attitude from me. There were days when I had no work. I would go out every single day in search of work. Unless one makes an effort, one can't reach there. My wife was like a pillar whose attitude towards me has never changed -- be it good or rainy days. She has been a loving mother too," he reveals. Have things changed now? "Today's generation loves freedom but Hrithik and his wife Sussane don't. See, we live in a joint family where everyone is entitled to give their opinion. We give Hrithik and Sussanne a lot of space and never intrude in their privacy. Nagging just spoils the relationship," he asserts.

Besides family, Roshan Sr has had a support of friends in the industry too. "Yes, Rishi Kapoor and Jeetendra are my partners in crime. I still hang out with them though Chintu is busy with films. Jeetu and I meet at least three times a week. In fact, our respective wives too have become friends now,” he exclaims. Coming back to professional life, on being probed why isn't he exploring other genres and also, why this inclination towards sci-fi films, he reverts, "See, I never compromise with my work. There are certain expectations with Krrish 3 as the franchise is very popular amongst the cine-goers. I can't let them down with mediocre work. In fact, I don't push the envelope and do things which are challenging, I get sleepless nights. At the same time, I can't concentrate on too many things." He goes on to add, "The reason why I took so many years to complete the script of Krrish 3 is because I was dissatisfied with the story boards. The first draft was ready before we went ahead with the shoot of Kites. I wasn't satisfied so I scrapped it. It was during the shooting of Kites, an idea struck me and things started falling in place."

Despite being a known filmmaker, Rakesh has never been greedy for limelight. "I'm a very private person. I love it when my audience appreciates my film. I don't need to be written about more often. Instead, I spend time watching films in the nearest cinema hall with my fans. At the end of the day I am a part of them. That way, I also get a fair idea, what my audience demands of me as a director,” he signs off with a big smile.
