Hrithik Roshan turns 43 today. The superstar says that he will usher in his birthday with his family and two sons. That's not all, with his home production 'Kaabil' all set to hit screens on January 25, the actor is also planning to party with the cast and crew of the film. In an exclusive chat with BT, Hrithik says, "I have been working on the post-production of 'Kaabil'. On my birthday, all I want to do is spend time with my family and children. There'll also be a wrap-up party of sorts with the cast and crew of the film. I think I will have a great time surrounded by the people I love."
The actor, who is devoted to fitness, points out that his concept of birthday has changed since he became a dad. "I look forward to the occasion because my children make interesting plans. They have the habit of writing to me on my birthday, so I eagerly await their notes, and they also look forward to it. It puts a smile on my face."
Interestingly, Hrithik's debut film 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' ('KNPH') had also released in January (14th). Does it make him nostalgic?
"I feel like I am travelling back in time. It reminds me of exactly what I had gone through during my first release. It's a very strange feeling, and the reason could be that I have come a full circle. It's almost like I am starting again. It's been long since I've had the opportunity to put my heart and soul into a film," he says, adding, "A film script is like a pool. The deeper it is, the deeper you can go, and I have had the opportunity to go into the depths of Rohan (his character in 'Kaabil')... The last time I felt like this was probably during 'KNPH' or 'Koi Mil Gaya'. It's like going back to the basics."
Duggu also has a special message for his fans, who he credits for his success and stardom. "I thank my fans for all the love that I receive. Every birthday, I am made to feel cherished — I want to tell all my fans that what makes me special is them and I value their love," he signs off.

Hrithik Roshan, who turns 43 today, went through a turbulent year in 2016. The controversy regarding Kangana Ranaut’s romantic insinuations and the failure of Hrithik’s big-ticket spectacle Mohenjo Daro have not dampened the superstar’s spirit. He looks with hope, happiness and optimism in the coming year as his birthday and the release of Kaabil is lined up one after another.
What do birthdays mean to you?
I guess they are special because it gives people a chance to say they love you and gives you a chance to reciprocate that love. It must be celebrated with joy, just for that reason.
What is your earliest memory of a birthday?
Fancy-dress parties. We used to love them. And waking up to new toys.
Now, of course, your sons must be more excited about your birthdays than you are?
My birthdays are special to them because we always do something crazy on that day. This time, though, I really have to put my imagination to the test as all the post-production work for Kaabil threatens to use up my entire day! But I’m sure I will manage something fun.
How important is Kaabil for you?
Very important. Feels like Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai all over again! By the way, that, too, had opened in January.
Having crossed 40, do you agree that life begins at 40?
Life begins whenever you decide to stand up and dance to the ups and downs of the rhythm of life knowing that it’s always heading towards a crescendo! But my 40s certainly promise to be the most fun. I plan to live life to the fullest.
What is the one most important lesson that life has taught you?
That magic exists. That you can create a world for yourself with your own two hands as long as you stay curious with the wonder of a child about the next surprise life has to offer. I love to be curious about life and grasp new experiences with both hands. I love exploring the world with my sons. To me, it’s a game. And I love playing it.
Would you want your sons to be actors?
They can be anything they want to be. My only condition is that they must do their best in whatever they choose.
Post-Kaabil, which project have you taken on?
None yet. I’m looking at various projects. But contrary to reports, I haven’t signed anything new.
Looking back on the year, what is the one thing that you’d like to change?
Absolutely nothing! I love my life. God has been very kind to me. Minor irritants do not bother me.

On his son Hrithik's birthday, Rakesh Roshan goes in flashback mode and talks about the days gone by
Rakesh Roshan is extremely ‘happy and proud’ of his son Hrithik, who turns 43 this year. We caught up with Roshan Sr, to talk about his beta, read on..
Hrithik, the achiever
Right from his childhood, the endearing thing about Duggu is that whatever he wanted to achieve, he would. If he took something up as a challenge, he make it happen.
The brilliant student
He was a briiliant student and focussed in his studies. He was an introvert and a quiet kid. He was not a socialising boy at all. He would mostly be at home, playing his games. As a child, he never showed an interest in acting. He was not dancing/acting in front of the mirror. He was very fond of reading. He preferred being indoors after returning from school.
‘Tough childhood’
He was always closer to his mom. I was struggling to make my mark at the time, so I could not spend much time with my children. But I would make sure we went for holidays. I would join them just for about three or four days. Growing up may have been tough for them because I could not give them everything as I couldn’t afford it. But I made sure I brought them up really nicely.
No special treatment
After graduating from college, he was selected to learn special effects abroad. But he chose to be here and started working with me on Karan Arjun. As an assistant director. I was very strict with him. I made sure he would not sit with us for lunches, dinners. He would not travel in my car. Instead, he would travel with the other ADs, in taxis, autos or buses. We would be having breakfast on the same table at home, but on the set, he was not my son, but just another assistant. He would have to share a room with three other people and have food with them. That’s the way I thought he would learn much better. He assisted me on Karan Arjun, Khel, Koyla and then, I launched him in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.
‘I slapped him’
I have hit him once or twice. When he was seven or eight years old. We were staying on the 13th floor of a building. We had a big terrace and I had kept some soda bottles and beer bottles there. The kids were throwing all those bottles down and it could have hurt somebody. I lost my temper and out of anger, I gave him two or three slaps. But then, I realised after an hour that maybe, it was not the right way to deal with the situation. I should have just explained it to him. The other time, I hit him is a funny incident. Hrithik was too fussy about eating. And I would make mashed potatoes and other dishes, expecting him to eat and he wouldn’t. Once I got angry and I toppled the bowl on his head.
Living my dream
He has worked really hard. I failed as an actor. But like any parent, I wanted my son to live my dreams. Hrithik has done the things I could not do in my life. He’s a superstar, he is idolised by so many across the world. But he’s my son and he makes me a proud father. He has had his ups and downs in his career and I feel it should always happen because that’s how he will learn from his mistakes.
He’s too trusting
Hrithik trusts people too easily. But that should be the case, right? You need to trust people to work with them or be friends with them. But at times, he ends up getting hurt, but that’s also a big learning curve for him.
A better dad
Hrithik is a good son, but he’s a better dad. He realises I was not there for him. So whenever he gets time, he’s with the kids. He’s either vacationing with them, going for a movie or just spending time with them. He takes them out on adventure trips. Maybe, it is an extension of what he wanted to do when he was their age. He teaches them to perform magic, and play the piano, and guitar. He takes them exercising and do athletic stuff like flipping and they would do it perfectly.”

Hrithik Roshan turns 43 today. From being a lover-boy in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai to the tough man in his upcoming Kaabil, Hrithik has unfolded several layers to his personality in the past 17 years of Bollywood career.
Blame it on his looks, dancing skills or acting prowess, Hrithik is a complete package. As Bollywood’s ‘Greek god’ turns 43 today, we have more reasons to say why Hrithik Roshan has always remained a trend-setter in the industry, both onscreen and off it too.
Hrithik, the competition
Hrithik’s dream debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai shook the position of all the reigning Khans that time. The then 26-year-old Hrithik swept all major awards and appreciation. But, there was another newcomer who faced a jolt – Abhishek Bachchan. Another star kid, and a big one, Abhishek made his debut with Refugee in the same year. But we know what happened!
Hrithik, the dance icon
As they say, he dances like a dream. Before Hrithik, the actor was born, Bollywood dance was more about Govinda’s classic moves, Salman’s convenient hip shake, or Sunny Deol’s ‘dhai kilo’ thumping on the ground. Hrithik redefined all of that and introduced cine fans to some real dance moves. He filled for that void of a true dancer. Only Hrithik could pull off a Prabhu Deva choreography in “Main Aisa Kyun Hoon.” Today, no film is complete without his moves. Period!
Hrithik, the risk-taker
Hrithik dared to play a terrorist quite early in his career. When any other actor would try to establish his footing as a romantic-action hero, Hrithik signed films like Mission Kashmir and Fiza, leaving many questioning his choice of films. Later he even picked experimental roles, like a differently abled man in Koi Mil Gaya, a thief in Dhoom 2, a euthanasia-seeking magician in Guzaarish, a revenge-hungry son in Agneepath and an aimless lad in Lakshya. He even played Emperor Akbar with conviction in Jodha Akbar. He has always proved his acting skills and pulled off all kinds of roles. We are sure his blind man act in Kaabil will win hearts too.
For an audience hooked to Hollywood superheroes, accepting a desi one was a challenging. But Hrithik took that up and arrived as Krrish. He got more love from the kids who could relate to an Indian superhero much better. Though Drona and Ra.One followed, but couldn’t surpass Krrish.
Hrithik, the award snatcher
He owns six Filmfare trophies. He has received at least 145 nominations at various award ceremonies throughout the globe till date. And out of this, he won 136 times. Hrithik’s most nominated films are Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and Jodhaa Akbar. KNPH holds a name in the Limca Book of Records for the greatest number of awards won by a Bollywood film, a total of 102.
Hrithik, the ‘Greek god’
This is one tag he has been carrying forever and still remains dethroned. Ask him about being called one and he quips, “That’s far from the truth. I have been to Greece and no one recognised me there.” With those kind of international looks, no wonder we heard talks about his international debut.
Hrithik, the waxed Bollywood star
He is one of those very few to have a wax statue at the famous Madame Tussauds museum in London. In 2011, he became the fifth Indian star to get this honour. When his wax figure was displayed, in no time it became among the most kissed statues at Tussauds. By the way, at 37, Hrithik was also the youngest celebrity to get waxed there.
Hrithik, the fashion icon
Hrithik can pull off anything from casual to formal. He even has a fitness clothing line in his name titled “HRX Signature Collection.” From those rimless glasses in KNPH to cropped tees in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and semi-formals in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Hrithik has been one trendy star. Can we think of a more stylish thief that him in Dhoom2?
Hrithik, the fitness guru
His chiselled body is a proof that he is a fitness freak. His day isn’t complete without hitting the gym. Hrithik has proudly flaunted his six packs in films, ensuring nobody goes home any less satisfied from the cinema halls. We don’t blame you, ladies!
Hrithik, the best father
The actor might have parted ways with his wife Sussanne Khan, but he continues to give us major family goals every time he appears with his two sons – Hrehaan and Hridhaan.
The daddy cool prefers to take his kids on several adventurous trips from skiing to rock climbing. He was holidaying with the boys from Christmas to New Year this time too. And his pictures left us in awe.
Hrithik, the huge hearted man
Not many know that Hrithik spends at least Rs 7 lakh per month on charity work. That’s because he keeps it personal. Last year he even fulfilled the last wish of cancer patient Nikita Shukla by taking time off from shooting Mohenjo Daro and spent hours with his big fan.
Let this list get even longer. Happy birthday, Hrithik!
