"You don’t have to mimic or mirror anyone," says the actor
Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil released in January. Shah Rukh Khan whose Raees released on the same day has had another release — Jab Harry Met Sejal — while Hrithik is yet to confirm his next project. The actor, who was at a Rado event to introduce the new range of watches, spoke to us about the film that is likely to be his next release — Super 30, a biopic on mathematician Anand Kumar. Here the actor talks about his next project for the first time...
Meeting Anand
Hrithik met Anand recently at his house. Talking about the meeting, Hrithik says, “I had a very nice meeting with him. He’s a fantastic person. Apart from the movie, I have engaged in a lot of other conversations with him about his life. It’s an extremely inspirational journey.”
‘You need not be identical’
One of the major highlights of any biopic is the way an actor moulds and adapts himself while playing a real person on screen. Picking up nuances like walking and talking like the subject. However, Hrithik has a different approach. He says, “That is a very individualistic approach. You don’t have to mimic or mirror someone to play them in a film. You need not be identical, so why even try doing that? That’s one way to do it, maybe. But the other way is to narrate a story and to project the emotions in the best way that suits the actor. It depends on how you want to play it. For me, it’s not important to be exactly like the person who I’m playing. I didn’t even do it for Akbar. It’s purely the emotional journey that needs to be communicated.”
The waiting game
In the last seven months, there have been some projects with Hrithik’s name attached to them, but none have been made official. Prod him further about Super 30 and he says, “It’s too early to get into such details. I am also looking at many other scripts. Nothing is official right now. But yes, this seems like a very, very good journey for me to collaborate on. We have to wait for the official announcement.”
Maths — not a problem!
Mathematics spells horror for most people, but Hrithik seems perfect to play the part as he tells me, “I was pretty good at Mathematics as a kid. Unlike others, I used to love solving Maths problems.” And his sons seem to have inherited that from him, “I don’t need to sit and teach Maths to my kids (Hrehaan and Hridhaan) because they are also very good at it.”

Hrithik Roshan is in talks to do the biopic of Anand Kumar, who runs the successful, 'Super 30' programme for IIT aspirants in Patna. Anand mainly trains the economically backward students for IIT-JEE, and he started this in 2002. Chances are that the film might be titled Super 30.
Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan, who is in talks for the biopic on Patna-based mathematician Anand Kumar, believes cinema is the best medium to celebrate stories of real heroes.
Kumar runs the famous ‘Super 30’ program for IIT aspirants in Patna. He mainly trains the economically backward students for IIT-JEE. He started the program in 2002. “If an opportunity presents itself (to narrate such stories) then it’s great. I think cinema is a fantastic medium to bring out stories that are inspiring and empowering. I am still in discussions for the film on him (Kumar). It’s not official but as soon as it will be, I will let you know,” Hrithik said in an interview.
The film tentatively titled ‘Super 30’ will trace Anand’s rise to fame as the founder of the program. Recently Kumar posted picture of his meeting with Hrithik and director Vikas Bahl. Though the 43-year-old superstar refrains from talking about the project, when asked if the prep work has already started for the movie, he said, “I have not signed the film. I will only be able to talk about it once it’s all official.”
If all goes well, then in his journey of 17 years in the film industry, it is for the first time that Hrithik will be acting in a biopic. Kumar also met actress Katrina Kaif recently and this has led to speculation that she might team up with Hrithik again, after Bang Bang. On working with Katrina again, Hrithik said, “I have no idea (about her being part of the film).”
